Andrew Huff of Gapers Block Visits DePaul University

Professional blogger Andrew Huff told a DePaul University Online Journalism class on Wednesday to “write what you know. Link to the rest.”

Huff started the blog, Gapers Block in 2003; helping lead the way into what would soon be a worldwide blogging phenomenon.

His blogging experience began with me3dia in 2001. Me3dia is Huff’s personal blog. He caught the “blogging bug” and ended up meeting other Chicago bloggers.

The idea for Gapers Block was born when Huff and fellow Chicago bloggers felt there should be one place where people could find out about Chicago news without having to visit multiple Web sites.

Gapers Block is a popular term used in Chicago to describe when traffic is bumper-to-bumper due to an accident on the side of the road. Huff and his staff want readers to slow down and pay attention to what is going on in the city. (more…)
